North End Electronics Recycling

Our last North End Electronics Recycling Day for the year will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 9am to 12 noon in the parking lot next to the Brookdale Shop Rite and across from the Brookdale Christian Church.

Drop off household electronic items that you no longer want such as:

  • Televisions and computer monitors
  • Computers, including gaming systems, tablets, e-readers. etc.
  • Computer accessories (keyboards, mice, routers, modems, cables, etc.)
  • Telephones (including cell phones), fax machines and scanners
  • Media players (Stereos, radios, DVD/Blue-ray/VCR players, etc.) and accessories (speakers, wires, etc.)
  • Small household and kitchen appliances (irons, toasters, food processors, etc.)

Household electronics recycling benefits you and your children by removing lead and other hazardous heavy metals from the waste stream and the environment. Electronics recycling also makes financial sense because it reduces our garbage hauling fees and generates revenue for the township from the items we sell in bulk to recyclers who recover the precious metals and other materials that can be reused.

I led the effort to initiate the Bloomfield Township electronics recycling program which has not only saved the Township over $32,000 in reduced garbage hauling costs but has generated over $10,000 in revenue to the Township.

Recycling electronics recovers valuable materials and as a result, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution, save energy, and save resources by extracting fewer raw materials from the earth. (Visit the EPA's FAQ page for more information on "e-cycling".)

Finally, New Jersey's Electronic Waste Management Act now prohibits throwing out most household electronics in your curbside garbage, so do a good deed for your town, your children and our environment by giving your trash a second chance!

Thank you to Public Works Director Anthony Nesto and his team for running the North End Electronics Recycling program, and thank you very much to the Bloomfield Christian Church for again allowing us the use of their parking lot to host this event!
